Centering Creativity
in Piano Lessons for Kids

Piano lessons in North Orange County for kids where creativity, exploration, and discovery come first.

From Fundamentals to
First Performance

Music is often an act of sharing: you put yourself into a piece of music, and then give it out to the world. My program is focused on giving students the tools they need to share their music with their community.

Private Lessons

Every lesson is a one on one session between student and teacher. This allows lessons to be unique to each child, giving them the focused time they need to flourish.

Student Driven

I follow the passion and curiosity of each student, empowering kids to explore the kinds of music that matter to them. This means taking kids seriously, and encouraging them to be an equal partner in their musical journey.

Music Reading

Kids will learn how to turn a page of notes into music, a key step in becoming an independent and capable musician for life. Being able to read music allows your child to participate in a worldwide musical conversation.

Live Performances

Students have the opportunity to perform for their first audience, building the confidence to share the music they love. This includes bi-yearly recitals, as well as performance opportunities in the local community.

Creativity Centered Approach

Through my unique Integrated Creativity approach, young students have the opportunity to explore music on their own terms, discovering what music means for them.

Improvising

Students learn to make music in the moment, where each note is a chance to explore new sounds and musical colors. This teaches kids that the piano is fun and exciting, and fosters a spirit of exploration towards music.

Songwriting

Kids are guided through writing their own songs, from deciding the first note to getting their name on the page. Their songs become a part of piano practice, getting students excited about technique and repertoire.

Music Apps

Students have the opportunity to learn music apps like Musescore, Garageband, and Logic, giving them the tools early that professional musicians use daily. Daily practice apps like Tenuto & Notes Teacher are also used to help reinforce fundamentals.

Learning Opportunities
Outside the Lesson

Learning is a constant process, and shouldn't stop when the lesson is over. Mycelium Music Lessons offers multiple avenues for education, in addition to our weekly lesson.

Online Music Learning Community

Your child will participate in a community of young musicians. Every week, they'll have the opportunity to share a part of their musical journey, in the form of a video submission: a piece they're learning, a song they're writing, or something they improvise. They'll receive feedback from other students, and inspire each other with the music they're most excited about.

Vivid Practice

Lessons include free access to Vivid Practice, an app that helps kids learn with proven, science-backed practice methods. Vivid Practice will also include your child's weekly assignments, and allows them to ask me questions about their music before their next lesson.

Bi-Yearly Recitals

Twice a year, your child will have the opportunity to perform their music for their friends and family, building confidence in their art and giving them concrete goals for their musical development.
